Growing up in a church with its roots directly springing from the Great Dissapointment of 1844, I am both horrified and somehow captivated to see history repeating itself. Personally I do anticipate the "new heaven and new earth" with joy, but I believe that it is very dangerous to presume to understand the all the details. It leads to such terrible situations including mass suicides and/or abandoning families to follow cult leaders.
My heart aches for those whose hearts may be broken if nothing happens today (May 21, 2011) and at the same time I wonder if something may happen to encourage end time theories. Ultimately, I do wonder at our human capacity to ignore that which we don't want to see.
